ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY

ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY is a performing contemporary dance company. We formed in 1997 in Berlin, Germany, relocated to North Carolina in 1999, and incorporated as a 501-c-3 non-profit organization in the state of North Carolina in 2000.
Our work and background: It is our passion for creativity that drives us as artists and as organization. We offer high caliber art based on a solid artistic foundation and a fascination with the human condition. Having gained a national reputation for an outstanding artistic integrity and the ability to enrich people's lives with athletic, insightful, and unpretentious works that speak to the soul, we use contemporary dance and other art forms to reach and bring people together. We embrace collaborations with professionals from various fields in the arts and sciences. Since our re-location to Wilmington, NC in June 2007, ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY has become a vital part of this community. We enjoyed a one-year residency at UNC Wilmington, producing a full professional season 07/08 out of Kenan Auditorium. We produced the 'SARUS Festival for Performing Arts & Dance' for two years (2007 and 2008), serving New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick Counties. We offer classes and community workshops and have established a special ongoing relationship/residency with the CAMERON ART MUSEUM that allows us to continue our responsibility to play a vital role in the development of the artistic culture in the area.
Our programs: As artists and as a non-profit organization, we see ourselves as multifaceted creative beings and thus we continue to express ourselves in ever changing ways. We currently offer the following programs: 1) Live performances: We produce large scale and small scale live performances. Our repertoire encompasses a total of approximately 49 eclectic works. Every piece is significantly different from the previous one in order to attract new ideas and audiences. We frequently perform in outdoor public locations to bring art to people, enjoyable at no cost to them. It is our goal to offer the majority of our programs at no cost to the viewer in order to open our doors to everyone. 2) Arts In Education Program “WINGSPAN”: Reaching beyond the definition of a dance company, we offer arts in education programs, community outreach activities and more. WINGSPAN seeks to educate and inspire young people about the power of expressive movement. 3) SARUS: We are facilitators for festivals, lecture demonstrations and classes. In 2007 and 2008 we organized the multiple weekend 'SARUS Festival for Performing Arts and Dance' in Wilmington, NC, fostering courageous ideas, performances and youth programs. Contributing artists were professionals from as far away as New York City and Chicago, as well as regional performers from throughout North Carolina.. 4) “ArteNexus” – Art that Connects
